Wardle Academy, an educational facility in the North West, was experiencing significant issues with its outdated high bay lighting system. Inefficient fixtures were driving up operating costs and causing frequent utility overruns. Light levels across the site were inconsistent, with poor distribution creating shadows and dark zones that affected the learning environment and increased maintenance demands through regular lamp replacements and repairs.
The Academy required a cost-effective, reliable, and energy-efficient upgrade that would deliver rapid ROI through reduced energy consumption, enhanced lighting quality, and lower maintenance needs. In addition, expert recommendations on fixture selection, layout optimisation, and compliance with current lighting and safety standards were essential. Quartzelec was appointed to deliver the comprehensive high bay lighting upgrade, beginning with a detailed site survey and assessment to fully evaluate the existing system’s limitations, where several inefficiencies were identified.
Drawing on its engineering expertise, Quartzelec developed an optimised lighting design corporating energy-efficient LED high bay fittings to meet all technical and operational requirements. The scheme ensured uniform, glare-free illumination across all working areas and was fully compliant with BS EN 12464 standards. Installation was carefully scheduled to minimise disruption, with engineers removing outdated fittings, undertaking necessary rewiring, and integrating the new LED units into the facility’s control systems, generally out of school hours.
Following installation, Quartzelec carried out rigorous electrical testing and commissioning to verify performance, providing certification to guarantee compliance and assurance. To ensure long-term value, the Academy was also offered post-installation support including maintenance guidance, warranty details, and advice on performance monitoring.
