Electrical Installation Apprentice


Due to continuous growth, we are seeking an Apprentice to join the Electrical Contracting division within the Wrexham Business Unit.

Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments. Electrical equipment and systems may include switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protection switches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment as well as crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies.

Electrical safety is an important area of Electricians’ work. On completion of their work the electrical systems must be safe to use. They must adhere to safe working practices without endangering themselves or others.

  

Key Responsibilities & Accountability

This qualification has been designed in partnership with JIB to ensure relevance to the sector. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as Eng Tech by the Engineering Council.

Your Key Responsibilities & Accountability on completion of apprenticeship include:

  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems
  • Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electro technical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electro technical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • General data input
  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electro technical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • Understand and apply the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems
  • Oversee and organise the work environment

 

Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a minimum of Level 2 in English and Mathematics and is required to commit to a 48-month apprenticeship with Quartzelec starting in September 2024.

The apprenticeship will include day release study at Yale College / Coleg Cambria.

The following qualifications are attained through this apprenticeship:

  • Technical Certificate C&G 2339-17 in Electrical Power Engineering Level 2
  • SHEA Power (EUSR)
  • BESC Basic Electrical Safety Competence (EUSkills)
  • Power Network Craftsperson Level 3

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice can apply to be recognised by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) against the Engineering Council’s UK Spec as an Engineering Technician.

The apprentice will be issued with the appropriate Electro technical Certification Scheme (ECS) card by the Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry (JIB), and will also be able to apply for ‘Electrician’ status from the JIB (Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry).
