Quartzelec wins service partner status with engineering giant ABB

Quartzelec has been approved as a service partner in the UK to ABB, one of the world’s leading engineering companies, providing overhaul, repair and maintenance support for ABB machines within the UK.

Stuart Deas, quality assurance manager advised “We originally received ABB’s enquiry through the Grimsby office and after exploratory discussions, an audit at Rugby followed to ensure we could meet their high standards for working on ATEX certified equipment. (Equipment which has been designed with extremely high levels of protection against fire, gases and dust such as would be seen in oil refineries, chemical refineries, and coal-fired power stations).

Following the audit Stuart, Matt Brown (Sheffield) and Gareth Griffiths (Rugby) attended a three-day training course in Sweden to gain an understanding of ABB’s large motors and generators, also learning about the company’s philosophy on repair and maintenance, and the documentation required.

“Aberdeen, Swansea, Grimsby, Sheffield, and Rugby will all benefit from this new relationship,” said Stuart. “Each unit will be able to work on ABB machines according to the size of the machine and its geographical location within the UK.” Stuart also confirmed that our service partner status will apply to ABB’s LV and MV non-certified machines

In the UK ABB employs 2,300 people at 20 locations. The company is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering their environmental impact.
