Background

Housing 21, previously the accommodation arm of the Royal British Legion, is a leading provider of retirement housing, care and support services for older people. They are one of the largest providers of home care services in the country and currently own/manage over 15,000 properties. Quartzelec has been working with Housing 21 for the past ten years, carrying out Periodic Inspection Reports on the electrical systems on their housing stock to ensure they comply with the latest IEE wiring regulations.

The Project

As part of the continuing upgrade of housing stock, Housing 21 asked Quartzelec to tender for replacing the electric central heating system at Bretherton Court in Burscough and Ben Davis Court in Stockport.

Work scope included the replacement of Night Storage Heaters in the lounge and hall areas of the tenant’s flats, Panel Heaters with integral timers in the bedrooms and Down Flow Heaters in the bathroom and kitchen areas. Night Storage Heaters were also fitted in the communal areas of each court.

Quartzelec understood what disruption this work could cause being in a residential environment, particularly to the elderly, and committed to ensure changeover to the new heating systems in each flat, were completed within one working day, leaving a clean environment and ensuring each client was satisfied with the work carried out. Brief training on how to operate the new heating system was also given.

On the successful completion of this contract, Housing 21 were so impressed with the clean and efficient way in which our operatives carried out the work with minimum disruption to the elderly tenants, they entered into negotiation to renew the heating system in nine more of their locations; Lancaster, Hull, Burnley, Nottingham, Loughborough, Chesterfield, Cleethorps, Maryport and Wigan.

Outcome

“In my capacity of Court Voice, I would like to record a vote of thanks to your company in the installation of storage heaters at Henry Vernone Court. In particular your electricians, not only did they complete with minimum of fuss, they were both tidy and most courteous. They are a credit to your company.
