Falkirk Council
Key Benefits
- Periodic Inspection, Testing & Reporting
- Remedial repairs completed during inspection
- Certificates completed within 3 day timeframe
Background
Falkirk Council were looking for electrical partners capable of providing Periodic Electrical Testing and any subsequent repair services as part of a framework agreement for their stock of void council housing. It was anticipated there would be in the region of 3600 properties to inspect over a 3 year period and Falkirk Council would rely on Quartzelec to plan a suitable test and inspection program for existing void housing stock, reacting quickly to any immediate and new instructions.
The Project
As with all local authority’s, Falkirk Council have a responsibility to ensure all domestic electrical installations are safe for their tenants.
Following change of occupancy whilst properties are empty, Quartzelec responds to the council’s immediate request to carry out a Periodic Inspection. Remedial work is identified during this inspection and is rectified immediately to eliminate Code 1 defects (a defect that requires urgent attention). The reports generated are factual and follow the Electricity Safety Council’s Best Practice Guide.
From receipt of receiving an instruction, the inspection, repair work and certificate issue is completed within a target timeframe of 3 days. This ensures properties are quicklyreturned to the Housing Department for re-allocation.
The team working on this project includes three dedicated Inspectors supported by two apprentices, which can be increased at any time to accommodate urgent requests.
Quartzelec were awarded the contract in July 2008 and will continue with the testing and repair program to June 2011.
