Arabian Gulf Oil Company, Libya
Key Benefits
- 100 years IP legacy leading to ability to manufacture “duplicate” replacement motor to customer’s precise request
- Knowledge of latest Flameproof EEx”d” requirements
- Full witness rotating testing to customer’s specification
Background
Quartzelec in alliance with a third party UK service provider secured the purchase order for a replacement duplicate Flameproof cage induction motor for The Arabian Gulf Oil Company, (AGOCO), in Libya
Although Quartzelec initially quoted for a modern mechanically interchangeable and electrically similar motor to replace the original E355LX Flameproof cage induction motor, this was rejected during the tender process by AGOCO.
Quartzelec’s ability to manufacture “an exact replacement” motor to directly substitute those supplied by GEC in 1988 was key in securing the contract.
The Project
The key element to AGOCO was that the motor was a “duplicate”.
Quartzelec were able to carry out the exacting certification testing requirements to conclusively prove the integrity of the motors Flameproof construction and thus certify the motor in line with original requirements.
By careful control of outsourcing, procurement and in house manufacturing procedures Quartzelec Engineering were able to manage the very tight inspection requirements for the EEx’d’ motor.
Proof through both pressure and rotating testing, utilising Quartzelec’s foremost rotating test facilities ensured that the motor was to the complete satisfaction of the client.
Tests performed:
- Vibration readings
- Recording of motor losses at full speed and voltage
- Measurement of motor locked rotor characteristics
Outcome
“Quartzelec were again able to rely on the historical legacy of the company to fully meet the project requirements. Production and testing of this duplicate motor clearly demonstrated to both ERIKS and AGOCO the quality of the service we are able to supply at our premier Rotating Equipment service headquarters.”
